The Aledo Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1952 and has built a reputation for excellence in the ensuing years. Today, the department has thirty-five active volunteers many who have received their State certification in both medical and fire techniques. More than half of our volunteers are full-time Fireman, EMTs, and Paramedics in surrounding metroplex cities. These volunteers maintain and continue to develop their skills with on-going training at schools and seminars conducted by Texas A&M University, Weatherford College, and the National Fire Academy. At many of these schools and seminars, AVFD personnel are the trainers and instructors.
The Aledo Fire Department is housed in two separate locations – a 7-bay facility on Mesquite St. in the central business district; and a two bay facility north of the city on White Settlement Road. With nine major vehicles, including three brush trucks, two fire engines, and a 3,000 gallon tanker, the AVFD is able to serve the City of Aledo and the surrounding area with some of the newest technology and equipment available. The newest vehicles includes a large brush truck placed into service in summer 2005, just in time for one of the worst drought / fire seasons of recent years, a new Command vehicle and a Pumper Engine placed into service in spring 2006. Each volunteer is outfitted with a pager and a two-way radio, and dispatched through the 9-1-1 operator in Weatherford. In addition, two volunteers are scheduled on duty every weekday during the day to respond to any emergencies. When not responding to an emergency, you might see the volunteers cleaning the station or the equipment, teaching area school children about fire prevention, or driving throughout the area checking fire hydrants, updating maps, and checking access and plans for new sub-divisions and buildings as they prepare for potential future emergencies. Persons interested in working with the Aledo Volunteer Fire Department or in knowing more about the department should call 817-441-7284, or drop by Station 1. Every Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. many of the volunteers gather together for training, meetings, or just some fellowship. They would be happy to talk to anyone interested in learning more about the department.
